Victory: FFLC Protects Parental Rights in Public School
Recently, the Founding Freedoms Law Center (FFLC) was able to successfully help parents in Northern Virginia move their child out of a public school classroom being taught by a man claiming to be a woman. The parents’ religious faith did not allow their child to be taught by someone who seeks to live a “transgender” lifestyle. After the parents’ request for their student to be moved into another class was flatly denied multiple times by the school administration, the parents reached out to our attorneys for help.
FFLC promptly drafted and delivered a legal demand letter to the school administration, spelling out the parents’ rights under Virginia’s Constitution and state laws, including the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and Virginia’s parental rights statute. Upon learning of the parents’ representation by FFLC, the school administrators suddenly changed their tune and did a total 180-degree turnaround by agreeing to transfer their child to another class taught by a different teacher that was not in conflict with their faith.
This is a good example of parents pushing back to protect their children in public schools and standing firm in their religious convictions. But like many parents, they were not able to do it alone. They needed attorneys who could help guide them and fight with them and for them before the school was willing to budge. If you or someone you know is facing issues of religious discrimination or having their parental rights ignored in Virginia’s public schools, feel free to reach out to the Founding Freedoms Law Center to speak with one of our attorneys about how we can help.
